The Best of BRITISH Cocktails
Here at the Cambridge Club we pride ourselves on being quintessentially British in everything that we do… that got us thinking, what are the very best in British cocktails? We spent some time investigating and came up with this list for you try (just not all at once, hopefully!).
As the name suggests, this beverage celebrates the great British bramble! The thorny little partner for many a country walk and Sunday crumble. Fun fact - the word bramble comes from the Germanic bræmaz which literally translates as “thorny bush”. No messing around there, then!
The Bramble consists of gin (our favourite), blackberry liqueur, a squeeze of lemon juice to lift the flavour and serve over plenty of ice and of course - blackberries. Gorgeous, and good for you! Probably.
One for the Downton Fans! This cocktails, dreamt up by Tony Conigliaro from London’s Grain Store, is inspired by the hit show. It’s all also really nice and simple, with that touch of elegance you’d expect from a Downtown episode. It’s a blend of three of our faves:
- Elderflower Cordial
Make sure you give it a good shake and enjoy getting sozzled in sophistication.
Earl Grey Martini
This one has a few more ingredients, but it’s well worth the effort. Are you ready?
- Earl Grey (of course)
- Gin (yay)
- Lemon Juice
- Egg White
- Sugar Syrup
- Just don’t go dunking your biscuits in it..!
Pomms Cup ‘n’ Bob
A Pimms alternative that we absolutely adore! Gin, Tawny Port, Tonic and Citrus Sorbet - stick it all in a big jug full of fruit and voila! Nothing beats it in the sunshine.
Apparently this was a London favourite from the 1920s, nice and simple but with a good kick (maybe that’s where the name comes from?).
Equal measures: Scotch, dry vermouth and pineapple juice. Shake it all up, put it over ice, try to keep an eye on how many you get through!
So there you have it! Some of our British favourites. Think we’ve missed one? Leave us a message in the comments...
